Every year, the Hamilton and Golden Horseshoe hosts a regional skating meet. It is always a fun day, and this year proves to be extra special – not only is this our 5th year hosting the event, but we also want to celebrate Canada turning 150 years old! The meet is being held on Family Day, Monday Feb. 20th, 2017 at Mainway Arena in Burlington. This is the main fundraiser for our clubs, and as such we expect all of our skaters to participate and for our families to volunteer.
We are now focusing on getting ready for the Family Day meet which is less than 4 weeks away and lots of thing to do to prepare. Please find below items that require assistance on. Every family’s help is required, so sign up early to get the best positions.
We have volunteers coming from London, Kitchener, Milton, Oakville, etc and we have one of the coldest arenas around so we try hard to make their time with us as pleasant as possible. As such, we request each family to donate some food to the meet, to feed our volunteers. Jennifer MacIntosh will the sending out an email to organize the food for the meet – please watch for it.
As part of our meet, we have a silent auction table to help raise funds. We request that each family donate an item for the auction. Feel free to approach companies for gift certificates, products or services etc – attached below is a “Donation Letter” you can use to approach companies with. Poplar items include sports equipment, restaurant gift cards, movies etc. For companies that sponsor or donate to our meet, we will provide free advertising during the meet, in our program and on our website.
As part of the silent auction, we also have a children’s area that we request you donate an item to as well – simply pick something small up at your local dollar store, or donate gently used children’s books, toys etc to the children’s table. This is always a very popular event for the skaters!

If anyone has access to a large truck or trailer that could move our mats that would be appreciated. We have rented from U-Haul the past two years with a 28 foot truck which takes two loads to get enough mats. Please let Mike Murray know.
We will need help setting the track up some morning over then next few weeks. Please let me know if anyone can help out with this it would be appreciated. Once we have confirmation from the City on possible dates, we will confirm the date and time.
Please see the list below of volunteer positions still available. If you have any questions what each does, please let Mike Murray know. Most positions will have the volunteers trained the day of the meet before racing starts. First Year parents, we do not expect you to volunteer for a position during the meet as we would like you to come and experience the meet with your family.
We have the key positions covered and instead of placing people in positions, Mike decided to provide an opportunity to allow family members to select positions they may prefer. If there are too many for one position, Mike may have to change some of if there are any not filled then again Mike will fill the positions from the list as many people may not really have a preference yet.
