Hamilton Speed Skating Meet

Family Day (Monday February 18th ) our speed skating clubs host
Western Regional Meet # 4 at Chedoke Twin Pad Arena, Hamilton.

This is an excellent opportunity for all of our skaters to try racing on their home ice.
As you can appreciate, much work goes into hosting a speed skating competition.
To make this competition a success, we look to our speed skating families to help out by volunteering their time the day of the meet.

In the coming weeks, you will receive emails about :
a) registration to skate
b) volunteer role assignments for the meet
c) providing food for our out of town officials and volunteers.

In advance, we thank you for your continued support of our Clubs.

It takes a team to support the team.

Silent Auction Fundraiser & Children’s Table

We are starting to collect items for our Silent Auction Table for our upcoming Speed Skating meet, to be held on Feb. 18th, 2019.

The auction table is one of the major ways we raise funds from our meet. We need your help in two ways:

1. We request that each family donate an item for the auction.

This can be an item donated from your family, or feel free to approach companies for gift certificates, products or services etc. Attached below is a “Donation Letter” you can use to approach companies. Poplar items include: sports equipment, restaurant gift cards, movies, theme products etc.

For companies that sponsor or donate to our meet, we will provide free advertising during the meet, in our program and acknowledgement on our website. Please notify Annick at if you are able to secure any corporate donations, so she can ensure proper acknowledgement. (The form below can also be used to gather food donations to feed our volunteers, or donations to support our fundraising efforts)

2. We are also asking each family to donate one item for the children’s table – simply pop by the Dollar Store and pick up a small item, or donate gently used children’s books, movies etc.

The children’s table is always a very popular table at our meet.

Over the years, we have received many compliments from other clubs about our silent auction table – it’s something everyone looks forward to – and I’m sure people won’t be disappointed this year either!

Please have your donations into Lynnette Terpsis (Nick’s mom) no later then Feb. 14th.

Thanks everyone for your contributions – your efforts are very much appreciated!

If you have any questions, please contact Amy at

Welcome Back!

Hi All !
I hope you have all been having a great summer.

It is time to start looking towards September and I know one of the first things that comes to mind is Speed Skating, so below is some information to get you back into the swing / stride of things.

First, we would like to congratulate the skaters who have qualified for the Elite Series (formerly called Provincial Series) for this coming season : Lucy Whaling, Cameron Mason, Vivien Hayter, Sarah Murray, Hayley Murray, Spencer Bladon, and Adam Johnson.
Sara Salvucci and Isaac Turkstra are on the list of alternatives.

We have picked up more hours this year at the Chedoke Arena on Wednesday evenings from 5-8 p.m. This will allow us more options and more ice time for our members to improve. Remember – practicing more times a week significantly improves the rate of improvement.
We have practices at the Dofasco Park on Sunday afternoons and Tuesdays at 5:00, while we have practices at the Chedoke Arena on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Registration is now open. Amy Nilsson is learning the new Speed Skating Canada registration process. Do not wait to register. Please contact Amy at

We have early ice on the mornings of September 15th and 22nd to get everyone ready for our first ice session on September 30th. The September ice is for any returning skaters, as well as some guests from other clubs, if there is room.

The Club BBQ-Registration-Skate Fitting will be held on September 22nd at 11 Hilltop Place in Dundas.

For the older skaters, I recommend that they continue training to be ready for the season as there are preseason competitions this year starting in late September.

For those who have not really been training, please start doing something. We recommend, for the younger athletes (and require it for the older athletes) that they run cross-country with their school. It is about participation. You will be running with others, so at least, you are participating. Cross-country running will also improve your fitness, and you will become part of your school team helping to represent your school.

Some skaters have been participating in the summer training at the Chedoke Stairs most weeks. Unfortunately, I have been away more this summer than previous summers, but others have helped fill in the gaps most Wednesdays. We meet at 6 p.m. – skaters and family are welcome.

This year, we are allowing younger skaters on the ice for some sessions. Not only are we requiring speed skates for these skaters, but volunteer coaches to work with these young, learning to skate skaters. This program provides another opportunity to include more family members.

As we have room for new members in each of our sessions, please spread the word about speed skating !

Annual General Meeting : Thursday April 5, 2018

Please remember to attend The Hamilton & Golden Horseshoe Speed Skating Clubs’ Annual General Meeting.

A gentle reminder that each family agreed, as part of team membership, to attend the end-of-season meeting.

We request that one parent / guardian per family attend the year end meeting.

Because this is the year end business meeting, it is one of the few adult only Club events.

Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena (Upper Meeting Room)
25 Hester St. Hamilton
@ 6 p.m.

Skate Return : Unless your skater is participating in the April ice sessions, ALL rental skates must be brought to the meeting for return to Coach Mike.
